Hailey Kempf (she/her), President

Hailey is a junior from just outside Grand Rapids, MI double majoring in earth and environmental science and biochemistry. Her passion for environmentalism began as an appreciation of the nature and landscapes she explored while hiking and running outside. Now, she is particularly interested in combining her love of the environment with her love of science to study climate change and its effects on the environment as well as human health. In her free time, Hailey can be found jogging all over Ann Arbor, reading in a hammock on the diag (at least when it’s warm out!!), or listening to Lizzy McAlpine while analyzing Arctic aerosol particles in the Pratt lab.

Kaitlyn Wilson (she/her), Vice President of Communications

Kaitlyn is a sophomore pursuing a dual degree with Dance and Program in the Environment. Originally from Kansas City, she moved to Ann Arbor to study both of her passions. She found interest in the environment through joining FFA and starting an environmental club at her high school. One of her goals is to use dance and art to raise awareness about important environmental topics such as water quality, waste management, urban planning and climate change. Outside of dance and school, Kaitlyn enjoys tending to her houseplants, reading, and playing animal crossing.

Cory Plotzke (they/them), Communications Chair of Internal Affairs

Cory Plotzke is a junior from Port Huron, Michigan, double majoring in Earth & Environmental Sciences, and Ecology & Evolutionary Biology. They are in Eta because they spend a lot of time outdoors sniffing for adventure, including camping in the U.P. at the Bio Station and going helicoptering and rock climbing in Banff, Canada and British Columbia. Their academic interests involve studying sustainable solutions to human-caused issues in aquatic ecosystems, such as overfishing, cultural eutrophication, and invasive species. Outside of Eta, They are in musical theatre and spend a lot of time watching filth such as The Vampire Diaries. Their favorite band is Paramore.

Elisabeth Murley (she/her), Communications Chair of Public Relations

Elisabeth Murley is a freshman from Valparaiso, Indiana, majoring in PitE with a passion for environmental law. After spending much of her childhood at the Indiana Dunes National Park, Elisabeth fell in love with all things outdoors. Elisabeth hopes to attend law school after her time at the University of Michigan and one day practice environmental law. Outside of Eta, Elisabeth is a staff writer for the Michigan Undergraduate Law Review and enjoys making friendship bracelets, hiking, playing euchre, and all things comedy!

Gulzar Attari (she/her), Vice President of Programming

Gulzar Attari is a Sophomore from Oakland, California. She is pursuing a double major in Economics and PiTE with a focus in sustainable energy. She is passionate about circular economics, freshwater security, and green tech. Outside of Eta, Gulzar loves hiking, cooking, and trying new Ann Arbor restaurants!

Reese Owens (she/her), Programming Chair

Reese is studying PitE at the University of Michigan. Growing up on the coast of Lake Michigan, she’s had an appreciation for nature and the environment her whole life. In her free time, you can find Reese listening to lots of music, reading a good book, or enjoying time outdoors.

Elle Gross she/her), Vice President of Social

Elle Gross is a Junior from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She is majoring in Environmental Chemistry and is minoring in Education for Empowerment. She has always felt a strong connection to nature and as she began to explore her interest in science, soon realized her passion was to care for the environment through her work. She currently works in the Dept. of Chemistry in Dr. McNeil’s research lab quantifying and identifying the microplastics released into our water systems by silicone menstrual cups. She is very excited about her work and is beginning to explore graduate options to continue her academic exploration. Outside of Eta, Elle loves to craft, thrift to up-cycle, and spend time exploring new places with friends!

Henry Barron (he/him), Social Chair

Henry Barron is a sophomore from Monroe, Michigan. He is a PitE major with a specialization in Culture and Environment, and is minoring in writing. He first became passionate about environmental advocacy as a little stinker, climbing trees and inhaling fumes from a local coal plant. His long-term goals include doing research in hopes of advising organizations on how best to conserve and restore the natural environment. Outside of Eta, Henry loves plants, writing music, working out!

Gabby Gonzales (she/her), Vice President of Recruitment

Gabby Gonzales is a junior from Ludington, Michigan. She is a PitE major specializing in conservation biology with a minor in ecology and evolutionary biology. She’s interested in studying ecological relationships and applying that knowledge to conservation efforts. Gabby is drawn to this field thanks to her childhood spent along Lake Michigan and exploring the beautiful state park in her hometown. In addition to spending as much time as possible with her beloved Etas, she loves baking, reading, and hiking.

Emma Thomson (she/her), Recruitment Chair

Emma Thomson is a sophomore from Livonia, Michigan pursuing a PitE major with interests in environmental policy and law. Her passion for the environment has grown after studying many warblers and connecting with nature at the University of Michigan Biological Station. Emma is a fan of limnology field work and wetland protection. Outside of Eta, Emma enjoys bike riding, being an amateur birder, and watching the Detroit Tigers play.

Grace Pizzini (she/they), Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Grace Pizzini, is a junior from Glen Ridge, New Jersey. As a Chemical Engineering major she is pursuing energy systems engineering. She pays particular attention to how her field intersects with others and the potential societal impacts of her projects. Through involvement with internships, project teams, and engineering honor council, Grace explores design, technical, human, and ethical aspects of her field to ensure a well rounded perspective.

Brianna Jarvis (they/she), Committee Chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Brianna Jarvis is a sophomore from Grand Isle, Vermont. They are studying Ecology, Evolution, and Biodiversity with a minor in Creative Writing. They were outside for a majority of time when they were a kid, playing in the lake and the woods around their home. They first became interested in nature through photography and then their interest was peaked when they took their first biology class. Brianna’s academic interests revolve around the conservation of biodiversity in threatened and endangered plant and animal species and the protection of natural habitats largely impacted by climate change and human impact. They hope to be able to work directly with animals, whether that be in sanctuaries or out in the wild. Outside of Eta, Brianna loves to write, dance, and go on walks/hike!

Jack Droelle (he/him), VP of Finance

Jack Droelle is a sophomore from Shelby Township, Michigan. He is a Sociology major with a concentration in Law, Justice, and Social Change and is interested in environmental justice and activism. His love for the environment stems from spending his summers in northern Michigan, where he is able to experience beautiful national forests and the Great Lakes. Some of his favorite activities include going thrifting, discovering new music, traveling, and spending time outdoors. Lastly, Jack is a Pisces.
